A client with memory problems who lived alone was brought to Citizens Advice by his niece. With his permission we contacted his GP who confirmed that this gentleman had dementia.
We were able to assist this client with the lengthy claim form for Attendance Allowance. Once he was awarded this disability benefit we helped him to claim other benefits including council tax exemption (no council tax) on the grounds of his disability and also severe disability addition. A net annual gain of about £10,000.
